Huawei Vice President Declares: Achieving L4 Autonomous Driving on the Network Before 2025
Recently, the 7th Future Network Development Conference was officially held. At this conference, Peng Song, Senior Vice President of Huawei and President of ICT Strategy and Marketing, delivered a keynote speech. In his speech, Peng Song revealed his predictions on the development speed of autonomous driving.
Peng Song stated that the network innovation in the AI era includes two main goals: firstly, Network for AI, which aims to build a network that supports AI businesses and enables the training and inference of large-scale AI models. It seeks to connect end devices, edge computing, and cloud AI across all scenarios.
Secondly, AI for Network refers to using AI to empower networks by making network devices smarter, enhancing network autonomy, and improving business efficiency. The development of AI for Network will go through two stages: the first stage is achieving Level 4 autonomous driving for networks before 2025. This will be accomplished by applying +AI technology to achieve intelligent operation and maintenance at the element level as well as intelligent services at the element level. The second stage is expected around 2030 when AI large-scale models enable native artificial intelligence (AI Native), realizing application-level and network-level Level 5 autonomous driving.

In April 2023, Huawei and Seres jointly launched their new model of AITO, the ‘AITO M5 Intelligent Driving Edition’. Compared to the regular version, the main difference of the Intelligent Driving Edition is that it adopts Huawei’s ADS 2.0 system. During the launch event, Richard Yu, Executive Director and CEO of Huawei’s Consumer Business Group (BG), as well as CEO of Intelligent Automotive Solutions BU, stated that Huawei’s ADS 2.0 is a L2.999 level intelligent driving system which is ‘very close to L3 advanced intelligent driving systems’ and ‘far ahead of Tesla and other emerging forces.’
