Ni Xingjun Steps Down From Ant Group Blockchain Company
Ant Group Blockchain Technology (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. issued an official change on August 3 to its registration with China’s Industrial and Commercial Administration, switching its legal representative from Ni Xingjun to Zou Liang. At the same time, Ni has stepped down as executive director, while Zou now serves as chairman and general manager of the firm.
Ant Group Blockchain Technology was established in December 2018 with a registered capital of 100 million yuan ($14.80 million), and is wholly owned by Ant Group Chain (Shanghai) Digital Technology Co., Ltd. It is the innovative technology business segment of Ant Group, focusing on financial technology and other fields.
Not long ago, Ni Xingjun succeeded Eric Xiandong Jing as the legal representative and chairman of Alipay (China) Network Technology Co., Ltd., and continued to report to Jing, also the chairman and CEO of Ant Group. Alipay responded at that time that this was a standard corporate governance practice of Alipay, which aligns with the actual situation of the company’s operation.
Established in 2004 and registered in Shanghai, Alipay (China) Network Technology Co., Ltd. is the main body of the Alipay payment license, and the proportion of technical developers exceeds 50%. This tech firm provides payment technologies and acquiring services to a range of merchants and institutions. At present, it has served 80 million merchants and 1 billion consumers.
According to public information, Ni Xingjun, as a core member of the founding team of Alibaba Group, joined the firm in 2003. He is also the developer of the early version of Alipay. In June 2020, he served as CTO of Ant Group. In July 2022, Alibaba Group released its annual report for the fiscal year 2022, showing that Ni no longer serves as a partner of Alibaba Group.
Zou Liang, who joined Ant Group in 2015, has served as the general manager of Alipay’s public service department and as the vice president of Ant Group’s Alipay business group.
