Sony Responds to Rumors of Exit from China: Operations Are Steady

Recently, media reports suggested that Sony’s new mobile phones, Xperia 1 VI and Xperia 10 VI, will not be launched in mainland China. Furthermore, it was speculated that Sony mobile phones might completely withdraw from the Chinese market, implying that Sony phones may not be sold in China in the future.

In response to this, Sony officially replied to China’s Yicai Magazine on March 9, stating that many of Sony’s businesses in China, including its mobile phone business, are operating steadily. China is one of Sony’s most important overseas markets, and they are full of expectations for future development in China.

As early as 2013, Xperia Z1 began to be sold in mainland China, a history that spans 11 years. Previously, Sony announced its financial performance from July to September 2023. The data shows a significant year-on-year decrease in revenue for the mobile department, which includes Xperia smartphones. Consequently, there were rumors that the number of countries and regions where Sony Xperia 1V is launched would decrease, and the market then speculated that the countries where Sony mobile phones are no longer sold include China.

The performance of Sony mobile phones in the Chinese market has always been closely watched. In recent years, with the rise of local Chinese mobile phone brands, Sony faces fierce competition in the Chinese market. Despite this, reporters found that Sony is still selling mobile phone products normally on e-commerce platforms.
