Biren Technology Releases First General-Purpose GPU Chip BR100
Shanghai-based chip firm Biren Technology held the Biren Explore Summit 2022 on August 9, during which it formally released its first general-purpose GPU chip series: the BR100. This series has set a global computing power record, reaching over 1000T in 16-bit floating point operations, and over 2000T in 8-bit fixed point operations. Meanwhile, the company’s single-chip peak computing power has reached the Peta Floating-Point Operations Per Second (PFLOPS) level.
According to the firm, this product is the first general-purpose GPU chip to adopt chiplet technology and PCIe 5.0 PCI Express, as well as supporting CXL Protocols in China.
The BR100 adopts the chiplet design to make its total area break through the limitations of mask size on single chip area, therefore integrating more computing power and universal logic. In addition, by reducing the area of a single computing chiplet, its productivity and yield can be improved at the same time, thus greatly reducing the cost of silicon wafers.
The BR104, another product in the BR100 series, is also built based on the firm’s “Biliren” framework. With only one computing chiplet, it can offer approximately half the performance of the BR100.
At a press event, the firm also officially released its own original framework – “Biliren” – an OAM server Haixuan setting a global performance record, an OAM module Bili 100, a PCIe board product Bili 104, and a self-developed BIRENSUPA software platform.

The Bili 104 board features the standard PCIe form, and its power consumption is controlled within 300W, which can adapt to many servers of 2-4U. The Haixuan server can provide floating point peak computing power of 8PFLOPS (8,000 trillion times per second).
The software platform self-developed by Biren Technology is built on the underlying hardware of BR100 series products, which consists of driver layers, programming platforms, framework layer and application solutions, supporting various application scenarios. The programming platform is located at the center of software stack, in addition to the programming models, acceleration library, tool chains, compilers and other components. Developers can use these components to develop various applications.
