BYD Launches Three EV Models for European Market
On September 28, BYD held an online launch event for new energy passenger cars in Europe, launching three models for the market, including Han, Tang and ATTO3 (known as Yuan PLUS in China). The prices for these three models, however, are much higher than those in China.
The pre-sale price for the ATTO3 in Germany is 38,000 euros, and the pre-sale price for the Han and Tang in Germany is 72,000 euros. The price of the Han and Tang models is already higher than that of the BMW 5 series in the UK, which sells for 41,800 pounds, or about 46,700 euros.
The price of a BYD Han EV in the Chinese market is about 210,000 yuan to 230,000 yuan (30,318 euros – 33,206 euros) while the price of a Tang EV is about 280,000 yuan to 340,000 yuan. The Yuan PLUS costs between 140,000 yuan and 170,000 yuan. As a result, the price of some of these models has doubled in Europe.
As the first model to be introduced in Europe, the BYD Tang will have a seven-seater version, which was delivered to the Norwegian market last year. The BYD Han model to be delivered in Europe will have a four-wheel drive version with a maximum power of 380 kW, 0-100km/h acceleration of 3.9 seconds and a range of 521 km in WLTP. The ATTO 3 is BYD’s third model to enter the European market, and is expected to offer a 420km range version.
The three models will also be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in France in October, and start deliveries in many European countries, including Norway, Denmark, Sweden, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and others. By the end of this year, BYD will further explore the French and British markets to provide new energy passenger cars and supporting services to local consumers.
“Europe is the birthplace of the automobile,” said Wang Chuanfu, Chairman and President of BYD. “Last year, in Norway, the country with the highest EV penetration rate, BYD’s Tang EV saw some recognition by local consumers. This year, we are starting to bring more electric cars to Europe.”

Europe is BYD’s first stop in the international market. As early as 1998, BYD set up its first overseas branch in the Netherlands. Its business has expanded from batteries to solar energy, energy storage and new energy vehicles, covering more than 100 cities in more than 20 countries in Europe.
At the end of July, BYD announced its entry into the Japanese passenger car market with three models, the Yuan PLUS, Dolphin and Seal. In August, the company entered the German and Swedish markets, with deliveries expected to begin in the fourth quarter this year.
