XPeng’s Split-Style Flying Car Revealed
On Sunday, Chinese Blogger @laiziluyi shared a spy shot of a car, reportedly the “land-based aircraft carrier” split-style flying car soon to be launched by XPeng Motors. From the spy photos, it can be observed that this new car has a large overall size and adopts a unique six-wheel layout, with hidden door handles on the side. Although the front face is tightly covered, making the overall shape and light layout unclear, these details are expected to be revealed in the final mass-produced model.
XPeng Motors previously officially introduced that this land-air integrated flying car is designed for the future three-dimensional traffic system. In the land driving mode, the flight system, including the arm and rotor, can be completely folded and stored in the car body. Through a folding transformation system, the vehicle can unfold the arm, switch to flight mode, and achieve vertical take-off and landing in permissible environments.
This flying car also incorporates many innovative technologies, including a foldable steering wheel, a transparent dashboard, and a transparent cockpit chassis. The intelligent cockpit can freely switch between land and flight modes. However, the actual application of the integrated flying car needs to match the future city’s hardware and software construction and application scenarios. XPeng Motors plans to advance the mass production of this product in the next step.
The design concept of the “land-based aircraft carrier” consists of two parts: the land body and the flight body. The land body can completely store the flight body in the car for ground movement. It can also automatically separate and combine like a “Transformer”.
In addition, this flying car uses a range-extended electric drive system, supports 6×6 all-wheel drive and rear-wheel steering, and can carry 4-5 people.
