Astribot’s New AI Robot Assistant S1 Officially Debuts at the World Robot Conference
On August 21, the 2024 World Robot Conference opened at the Beiren Yichuang International Exhibition Center in the Beijing Economic and Technological Development Zone. It is reported that this year, a total of 27 humanoid robot manufacturers and over 30 companies from the upstream and downstream of the humanoid robot industry chain are showcasing their products, making it the largest number of humanoid robot exhibitors in the event’s history. The next-generation AI robot assistant Astribot S1 from Shenzhen’s Astribot was also officially unveiled at this conference.
Astribot S1 is the new generation AI robot assistant officially launched by Stardust Intelligence two days ago. It replicated the expertise of guzheng playing, calligraphy, and sugar painting within hours, performing and interacting with the audience on site. This learning and operation capability can be replicated across various tasks and scenarios, demonstrating industry-leading general operational abilities across multiple contexts and setting a new standard in the industry.
Naturally Yours
The slogan of Astribot is “High tech, High life”, dedicated to creating warm AI robot assistants for several billion people.
S1 is an all-purpose humanoid robot that, during its first technical demonstration in April this year, performed several complex tasks including folding clothes, sorting items, flipping pans while cooking, vacuuming, and cup stacking, attracting widespread attention in the industry. This time, S1 was presented in its complete form, continuing to uphold the product concept “Naturally Yours”, showcasing the potential of the “strongest AI robot assistant” in a series of challenging, long-sequence, and generalizable tasks.
At normal speed (commonly 3 to 10 times speed in the industry), S1 can be described as intelligent and versatile, showcasing intelligent planning and superior operation in long sequence tasks such as food preparation, brewing Kung Fu tea, and instrument performance. It exhibits expert-level agility, dexterity, and smoothness in skills like imitating Wing Chun and precise shooting, greatly expanding the imagination for applications.
Design for AI
The S1 product relies on the integrated hardware and software system architecture for AI (Design for AI) independently developed by Astribot, which strongly couples ‘AI intelligence’ with ‘the most powerful operations’. This allows the robot to closely mimic humans, learning, thinking, and working like a person, interacting intelligently and fluently with people, using human tools and devices, and helping to complete tedious, difficult, or dangerous tasks. This establishes the foundational technology for embodied intelligence and a core technological advantage.
In terms of AI intelligence, the S1 has the ‘most powerful brain’, equipped with perception, cognition, real-time decision-making abilities in complex environments, as well as intelligent understanding and multimodal interactive execution capabilities, achieving generalized operations at the object, task, and environment levels. It is worth noting that Astribot has made a key breakthrough in data acquisition for embodied intelligence. The S1 can low-cost utilize existing real-world video data and human motion capture data, collecting high-quality data across multiple dimensions such as touch, force, vision, and hearing from a first-person perspective. By integrating this data for more efficient large-scale training, it reduces the cost, volume, and training difficulty of collecting high-quality data for robots, enhancing the potential for generalization.
In terms of robot hardware, the S1 can achieve the ‘strongest operation’ among robots of the same specifications at a low cost. Its unique soft and hard coupling transmission mechanism design monitors force transmission in real time through sensors, no longer relying on trajectory estimation, but instead precisely controlling the output force by sensing the magnitude of the force, much like a human, significantly improving operational precision.
The S1 can understand and make decisions like a human, interact smoothly with people, and continually learn and evolve through interactions with the real world, steadily enhancing its intelligence and multitasking generalization abilities. In the future, it is expected to gradually achieve Artificial General Intelligence.
Commercialization to be completed by 2024
The S1 features a ‘high-value upper body and a mobile lower body,’ making it suitable for a wide range of scenarios including research, commercial use, and home applications. Its key components are self-developed, providing a significant cost advantage.
Through the design of hardware that combines rigidity and flexibility along with innovative planning algorithms, the S1 achieves extremely high safety, enabling precise control of force during interactions, ensuring that it does not harm people, objects, or itself during movement, thus laying the foundation for real-world applications.
Astribot pursues groundbreaking integration of software and hardware technology, continuously expanding the boundaries of application scenarios, with commercialization expected by 2024.
The CEO of Astribot, Lai Jie, stated: “Our vision is to provide several billion people with AI robotic assistants. Whether it’s taking care of the home or working in factories, the more robots learn, decide, and execute like humans, the more they can help people do more and do it better. Therefore, we welcome everyone to bring their demands to the S1, allowing its capabilities to grow from 55% and 85% to 99.99%, getting infinitely closer to human levels. We also hope that in the next five to ten years, AI robots will enter thousands of households.”
