BYD VP Stella Li: Tesla Plays a Vital Role in Electric Vehicle Advancement
BYD Vice President Stella Li recently stated in an interview that Tesla is a “collaborator” in the field of electrification in transportation, emphasizing Tesla’s significant role in educating and familiarizing the public with electric vehicles.
Stella mentioned that without Tesla, the global electric vehicle market would not have reached its current level of development.
BYD holds a great deal of “respect” for Tesla, acknowledging Tesla as both a “market leader” and a key factor in driving the automotive industry towards more sustainable technologies.
BYD considers traditional gasoline car manufacturers as their “true competitors,” while viewing themselves, including Tesla, as partners among all electric vehicle manufacturers.
“Because the more people involved in producing electric vehicles, the better it is for the industry.”
Previous reports also indicated that Stella referred to Tesla as a “highly respected industry peer,” with Elon Musk praising BYD last year, stating that BYD’s cars are “extremely competitive” today.
In the fourth quarter of 2023, BYD surpassed Tesla for the first time, becoming the global leader in pure electric car sales. However, looking at the entire year, Tesla still holds the top spot in global pure electric car sales.
In 2023, Tesla achieved its goal of delivering 1.8 million cars globally, while BYD’s total sales for 2023 reached 3,024,417 units, making it the global leader in new energy vehicle sales.
