BYD Secures Order for 120 Electric Buses in South Africa

BYD’s South African subsidiary has reached an agreement with Golden Arrow, a well-known bus operator in South Africa, successfully securing an order for 120 buses. This agreement marks the birth of South Africa’s first electric bus fleet.

Since 2021, BYD’s electric buses have undergone a series of comprehensive and rigorous real-world tests in South Africa with Golden Arrow, covering everything from simulated full-load conditions to conquering the steepest sections of Cape Town. In these tests, BYD’s electric buses demonstrated excellent performance, impressive range, and high safety, laying the foundation for subsequent large-scale cooperation between the two parties.

The 120 electric buses custom-ordered this time have been specifically optimized for South Africa’s climate conditions and transportation needs and will join Golden Arrow’s existing bus fleet. The ordered electric buses, each 12.5 meters long and designed with 65 seats, are equipped with lithium iron phosphate batteries and a six-in-one controller, both independently developed by BYD.

The delivery of the first batch of electric buses is expected to officially commence in December of this year, with plans to complete all deliveries by the end of next year.
