XPeng CEO: Intelligent Driving Systems Not Utilizing Large Models Face Obsolescence
At the AI Intelligent Driving Technology conference that XPeng Motors held on Tuesday, He Xiaopeng, Chairman and CEO of XPeng Motors, delivered a keynote speech, highlighting that XPeng Motors as one of only two companies worldwide, and the pioneer in China, to achieve end-to-end large-scale model production. The company’s significant investment of 3.5 billion yuan in AI training, encompassing computing power and labor, is a feat that most companies find challenging.
He underscored the network effect in intelligence, explaining that the stronger the AI, the more data it gathers, necessitating larger investments. Selling more cars becomes crucial to support this system, a cycle that most supply chains find difficult to manage.
He Xiaopeng proudly announced the unprecedented acceleration of XPeng‘s intelligent driving evolution, facilitated by end-to-end technology. The timeline for significant updates has been reduced from 13 months to just five months. By the end of the year, XPeng is set to achieve automatic ETC passage and internal road navigation within parks.
In terms of usability, he stated that XPeng‘s XNGP system has evolved from being merely drivable to truly usable nationwide, with no restrictions on cities, routes, or road conditions. While many competitors claim nationwide drivability, their actual implementation varies greatly. XPeng, on the other hand, imposes no route restrictions, except for specific scenarios listed in a “blacklist”.
Looking ahead to 2024, He promised further advancements, including a true door-to-door experience and enhanced learning capabilities for XNGP, enabling it to handle complex road situations. The version of XNGP that can handle automatic ETC passage is currently undergoing internal testing.
He concluded by emphasizing that intelligent driving systems not utilizing large models will likely be phased out as data-driven learning becomes increasingly important.
