Redmi GM: No Plans for Redmi Cars yet, Focus on Making Xiaomi Cars First
On the evening of April 1st, Thomas, general manager of the Redmi brand, responded to the “Redmi Car” plan in a live broadcast on Douyin. Thomas said, “Lei Jun has officially responded to me that there is currently no plan for a Redmi car. Don’t expect too much for now. We will definitely focus on making Xiaomi (cars) first and there will be new car models planned for the future.”
Thomas also said in the live broadcast room, “Now (Xiaomi car) production capacity still cannot keep up. It seems that the production capacity of Phase I in Beijing factory is about to explode.”
On March 28th, the first Xiaomi car was officially released, with Lei Jun announcing prices ranging from 215,900 yuan to 299,900 yuan. Pre-orders started at 10 p.m. on the same day. Subsequently, some netizens joked on social media platforms about whether there would be a Redmi car and even created a spoof of the Redmi car logo. Compared to the Xiaomi brand, the Redmi brand focuses on the low-cost smartphone market.
